Session Heats Up 28-11-2018

Went for a spin session this morning (7:30 am) and finished up fishing two separate tannin waters that were around 15km apart. The conditions were ideal. It was a little on the humid side, with very heavy cloud cover and a bit of light drizzle every so often... just perfect for trout fishing.

The first tannin water I fished was very poor and it only lasted some 50 minutes with hardly a trout seen over 400 metres of water. I had three hits for just the one trout caught and released. The water level was a couple of inches higher than my last trip here and I thought the fishing would be better again this time but it wasn't to be.

Today I decided I would get the helmet camera out and give it a go. I've had it for a couple of years but never used it. Using it with the chest strap I had no idea if I was recording or not, but anyway after I got home later in the day I did manage to get some footage on it. I was lucky, it was footage when I caught the one and only trout.

After I gave up fishing the first tannin water it was off to the next one. The water there was running above medium height and a little clouded, so I started off with a copper Aglia and didn't see a fish here for around 35-40 minutes, before I finally hooked and landed a small brown trout. It was all quiet again for another five minutes or so until I tried a Mepps #00 White Miller Bug spinner because of the caddis moths hovering above the water.

I thought seeing as they're white, then the White Miller spinner may pick up a fish or two. It did well in picking up four small brown trout, before they went off it. It was time for another change of lure and I went for an unused #00 Aglia Mouche Noire (gold blade) and the trout really went for it.

In the end (at 12:55pm) I had caught and released 17 small wild brown trout and also lost 6 others, as well as having plenty of hits and misses. The majority of the trout were picked up along the bubble lines, while the other trout were taken in flat water close to the river banks. The second tannin water that I fished I went back to using my fishing camera to do the next video. I'm sending the other to my grandson in Adelaide, I'm sure he'll have fun with it. I may try and pick up one that comes with a remote control... I'll probably still confuse myself with that one too...

Cheers,
Adrian (meppstas) Webb
