27. Bass Kit - Skinny Water

Bass fishing the skinny water can be relaxing and picturesque one minute and a high tension, white knuckle battle the next as you use some quick rod work to attempt to extract a bass, that is way too big to be in this skinny water, from its snaggy home.

Skinny water bass can be found from shallow pools that look like they wouldn't hold fish, right through to deeper, darker pools. Like so many other species, structure can often be the key, including rock, timber, lay down timber, lillies and reeds. Another key area that is worth a few casts is any shady sections or pockets that you encounter on your journey.

Popular plastics include ZMan 2, 2.5 & 3.5" GrubZ, 2.5" & 3" Slim SwimZ, 3" MinnowZ and 2.5" TRD CrawZ. Jighead weights vary from around 1/16oz to 1/4oz, with a #2 popular in 2" plastics, #1 - 1/0 in 2.5" and 2/0 - 3/0 in the 3 - 3.5" plastics. TT Lures HeadlockZ Finesse and HeadlockZ HD jigheads are the go in less snaggy environments, with a SnakelockZ weedless jighead ideal in snaggy environments. The smaller sizes in the SnakelockZ Finesse are popular for the 2 - 3" plastics, with the standard SnakelockZ popular in 3" plastics when fishing heavier drags for larger bass in heavy structure.

Surface fishing can also be effective, especially in lower light conditions and the ZMan 2.75" Finesse FrogZ, rigged on a TT Lures 2/0 ChinlockZ or 1/12oz 2/0 ChinlockZ SWS has proven an absolute fish slayer. Keep the rod tip up and get those paddle feet bubbling, or pulse and pause the FrogZ in the strike zone. Boof!

In areas where the bass are larger, our Pro Team have found the 4" Turbo CrawZ to be another effective weapon, both on the surface and sub-surface to fire up the bigger fish. Rigged on a HeadlockZ or weedless on a SnakelockZ 2/0 - 3/0. Fish on!

It's time to load the backpack and bush bash some bass.
