34. Flats Bream on Soft Plastics

Bream are a favourite lure fishing target that are available Australia wide, with a tournament scene built around them in many states.

In this chapter of Soft Plastics 101 we look at flats fishing for bream, including the gear, techniques and some tips to get you started.

Flats are large expanses of bottom that are of a similar depth, often out of the water at low tide and as the water begins to flood the flats bait moves in to escape the deeper water, while many flats dwelling creatures are now exposed to predators as the water becomes deep enough to allow bream, flathead, trevally, tailor and other species to move in and hunt. Key structure on the flats can include rubble, weed beds, channels and slightly deeper water. When you find bait and structure on the flats, the bite can be frantic with action a plenty. Fish on!
