Palomar Knot

The Palomar Knot is a quick, simple and compact knot for attaching a lure, jighead, hook, swivel or other terminal tackle to braid, monofilament or fluorocarbon line. It is especially handy for those looking for a braid to terminal tackle knot, such as attaching a swivel when bait fishing.

1. Start by doubling your braid, monofilament or fluorocarbon line.

2. Pass the doubled line through the eye of the lure, jighead, hook, swivel or other terminal tackle.

3. Next we tie a simple overhand knot. Start by passing the doubled line back over itself to create a loop.

4. Pass the doubled line back through the loop created and you have tied a simple overhand knot in the doubled line. Ensure that the remaining loop of line is long enough to open and pass over the lure, jighead, hook, swivel or other terminal tackle.

5. Open the loop and feed it over. In this case over the hook being connected.

6. Here you can see that the loop passes comfortably over the hook being connected.

7. You can now begin to tighten the knot, ensuring the loop doesn't catch on the closure of the hook eye as this can damage the line.

8. The knot can now be lubricated and tightened, ensuring that it beds down neatly.

9. Trim the tag end and you have completed the Palomar Knot.
